3D Television

The hottest new home entertainment technology to appear since the introduction of blu ray has got to be 3D TV and it has come a long way since the days of red and blue cellophane.

What is 3D?
It is in fact one image for the left eye and another one for the right eye, slightly offset from one and another. Withough glasses, 3D looks like 'double vision'.   By putting on the 3D glasses the shutter alternates each eye at 120 times per second.  This creates perception of a single image with depth ie 3D.

How does 3D Work?
3D TV's are meant to send a different image into each or your eyes so that your brain can process them and turn the two different 2D inputs into one merged 3 dimensional one.

What can I watch on 3D?
3D movies: in 2009 more than 13 films have been released in True 3D format, in 2010 it is predicted that up to 120 movies will be released.

3D Sport: State of Origin, 12 World Cup Soccer games

3D Gaming: Large quantity of 3D games will be available; Sony PS3 can be upgraded over the internet to 3D for Free

2D to 3D Upscale: This technology allows virtually any content across TV shows, console games and movies to be converted to '3D like' depth.  This is not as pronounced as native 3D

What do you need to watch true 3D?
  • 3D TV
  • 3D Blu ray player
  • 3D Glasses (minimum of 2 recommended)
  • 1.4 HDMI lead
